About Us
Joining Centurion
Welcome to Centurion TSC. Please find below some information for you.
When you start shooting with us you have a 2-session tryout period. This will allow you to borrow club equipment and try out shooting on our 6-yard range. You will need to become familiar with the range safety and etiquette regulations. Once you have been 2 times you will then be asked whether you would like to join. Whatever your decision we would appreciate your feedback on your experience so far.
The club meets twice a week, Wednesday and Thursday from 7pm to 9pm
Once you have made the decision you will need to complete the membership forms as soon as possible. You will only be able to continue to shoot if you have submitted your membership forms.
You have decided to join Centurion TSC, you are now a probationary member and will be for 6 months. During that six months:
-
You will shoot on the 6-yard range until you have been assessed on your competency and safety on the range
-
It doesn’t matter at what level you shoot, all probationary members start on the 6-yard range. This is to allow the club coaches to observe and help you develop your shooting. All coaching is done on the 6-yard range and this is where you will receive the most support and encouragement. Once you move to the 10-metre range you are pretty much left to your own devices but don’t worry, we will be watching 😊
-
The head coach and committee will review each probationary member during the first 6 months and you will be invited to move to the 10-metre range once you have reached the required level. Depending on your level of competency this may be sooner than 6 months but you will only move to the 10-metre range once invited.
-
You will have an opportunity to shoot both pistol and rifle and work out which works better for you and which you feel most comfortable shooting. You can ask other members for advice on which discipline to shoot but don’t forget they will be very biased! 😊
-
Once you have decided on rifle or pistol you can then shoot your average. You will be asked to shoot a number of cards which will then be scored to give you an average score. Once you have an average you will then be able to participate in the postal leagues.
-
The majority of the club’s coaching takes place on the 6-yard range, once you move to the 10-metre range you are considered to be an independent shooter. However you can always ask the club coaches for help
If, at the end of the 6 month probationary period, the head coach and committee do not feel that you have reached the required level to move to full membership you will either be asked to leave or be offered an extension to your probationary period. This will, of course, be discussed with you and is intended to be of assistance to your shooting development. The current cost for a probationary membership is £20 with an additional £20 being required when you complete your probation. The full membership is currently £40 (but subject to annual amendments at the club’s AGM).
The club has a number of Range Officers, or ROs. Their names are on the storage cupboard and their commands must be obeyed immediately and at all times. They are there for your safety and the safety of other members.
Once you have become a full member and/or have moved to the 10-metre range having your own equipment is very important. Your development depends on having equipment that you can adjust to your own body. The club sometimes has access to second hand equipment and can advise on the best equipment for your needs. The club has equipment you can borrow but this is for a limited period of time and generally for beginners and/or junior shooters. Please ask any member of the committee or anyone on the desk for help if you need anything.
